Saving website on CD and checking links

As the hand in is tomorrow i have saved the website on CD instead of putting it online. I tried using black apple host but i decided against it. The CD seemed like the easier option and i could check everything worked before and after putting it on the CD.

I also checked all of the links to ensure that everything is working. The last time i handed in the last website i didnt check that all of the links worked on every page. To ensure that i could check them i spent a lot of time finishing the website earlier than i had intially planned. Also this gave me the time to add any finishing details.

Creating personal website

I have found using dreamweaver a struggle again. Even using help from various google sources and forums i have still found it tough going. Like my first website i designed i have gone through various stages of design. I have fiddled with the general appearance for a while now and have finally settled on the screen shot below

I have put in the coloured background in to add more to the website, before when the website was purely white it looked a bit plain and uninteresting.

The Header across the top of the page was also quite difficult to make, with alot of the work being done in fireworks and photoshop. I found it particularly time consuming to cut out the players which are situated behind the title of the website, but i am pleased with the final result.

Touching up articles

After reading some of the articles i have posted up onto the website, i decided to go back and edit some grammar mistakes and spelling mistakes.

I also put in some links out to other websites. I included some goal highlights. I only included some of the better highlights there were a few to choose from. By better i mean those of higher quality, a few highlights were blurry and almost impossible to watch.

While checking spelling i also went back to check the names of certain players which i have included into the article, to ensure they were actually correct.

I have also included links to some of the players which i have included.

Adding new posts and using new features

Today i added another weekly round up for the Portuguese Bwin Liga. Writing up the results is pretty straight forward but i am trying to use the different features WordPress has to offer.

I included within my most recent post a quote. The template that we are using for our website allows us to to put emphasise on quotes by centring them in the middle of the page and highlighting them in a grey box. I feel that this adds to the aesthetics of the page as well as highlighting any key points in the article.

Also another feature which we have all decided to use is the excerpt feature. This feature only allows an excerpt from the article to be shown on the home page. I feel that this makes the website look a lot more professional and also keeps the home page a lot tidier and easier to use.

Continuing Online assessment – 24/03/09

I have put the finishing touches to my feature which i have written. The article is about the steady decline in the standard of Portuguese football. I have tried to explore different avenues in trying to find an answer for the question. I am pleased with how it has turned out.

The final decision on the site has been made with it being a simple blog format. We tried to set each post into a separate page leaving the home page just for English football news. We couldn’t find a way for this to happen so we decided to keep it in a simpler format.

The first post which will be put up onto the website will be our predictions for the forthcoming International fixtures . We all made predictions with points going to the correct predictions, the highest total at the end wins.

New Online assessment

The idea behind this assessment is to create a group website.
As a group we have decided to write about football. We toyed with the idea of creating a fictional football.
The website would of revolved around the daily events of the club.
Due to the demand and standard of writing that would be required we decided against this idea.
The final idea that we have come up with is each member of he group will take a European league and report upon it.
Also each member will contribute to English league news.
The league which i chose was the Portuguese league.
When building the website it was decided that we would go with a word press format. We all felt that this would easier to use. Each page would have a set format and in order to post a page we would only need to write on the easy to use word press site.

Finishing touches

Upon finishing my blog I opened the page in a preview window to check that the links worked correctly. I had to reconfigure one in order to direct it to the correct page but other than they all worked fine.
In order to hand in the work i needed to transfer it onto a disc. We had the additional choice of putting it online but i decided the disk would be easier.
This was a simple process as I all had to do was drag and drop the files onto the cd. I then checked that the CD worked.
The next step was to write the evaluation. I managed to write about 900 words, which were ramblings about how i found the processes of creating the portfolio website and what i felt what went wrong or well.

Completing Online feature

I managed to finish writing my online feature. The feature is about Arton Baleci. He has given up a year of his life in order to become a professional footballer. He will use scientific methods and a team of experts in order to achieve his dream.
Upon finishes i added relative links and picture then added the players number boxes. After all of the finishing touches had been made i saved the file in PDF format and linked to it on the second year work page.

Online class 03/12/08

Since I worked in the last lesson I have changed the colour of the footer to match that of the header. This decision adds colour to the page as well as highlighting the clock which is situated in the footer. Below is a screenshot of the changes I have made.

Also as you can see I have changed the background colour behind the text, I choose this colour as I feel it compliments the colour of the header and footer. The font has been changed from black to white in order to make it stand out and easier to read.

Now I have linked and introduced everything except from the feature which I will have to write. I think I have one or two topics on which i can write it upon, both are football based. The key will be trying to incorporate all types of media within the feature. I can obviously link to other websites containing the information. I will try to include videos either by linking are actually importing them into the text itself.

Within the second year the link to all of my Sportingo articles was a dead link I had to change it, so that viewers could access what I have written.

I have managed to create PDF files which will be used in order to view all of the word documents. I have put a warning on the home page for the all viewers to use a programme suitable to open these types of files. I felt these would be the easiest type of file to use. I also came upon some minor problems trying to link to just simple word documents. So it was just an easier process to use PDF files.
